Story Time: Trick or Treat Smell My Feet

Trick or Treat Smell My Feet activities for kids to do along with the picture book by Diane deGroat

This story.

I love Trick or Treat, Smell My Feet by Diane de Groat because it teaches lessons, sure,  but mostly I love how autumn-y it is. The background of each page is even shades of yellow and orange.  It pushes my happy buttons, I ain’t gonna lie.

Halloween, as you know, is my favorite-ist holiday.  Mostly because it happens in autumn, and the decorations are all those wonderful tones of red, orange, and yellow that get my blood pumping, but also because of costumes and treats and ghost stories.

Trick or Treat, Smell My Feet doesn’t have any ghosts, but it does have siblings, a costume mix-up, and a parade.  So I’m down.

And because I’m the Lit Mama, here are some fun activities and make this sweet story even more amazing!

Language

Since the school costume parade is such an important part of the story, it might be fun to have your littles use their language skills to create a flyer to advertise the parade.  Here’s a free template to get them started.

  1. Too Cute!! I love books paired with science. So you know, my son was truly interested in your share of this post at the Homeschool Nook linkup. He keeps telling me to “stop” and “go back” so he can reread the post:). Thank you for sharing your creative book extensions! We both enjoy them and will continue to visit often.

    • Oh my, Crystal, you have just made my day. Please tell your son there are tons of Story Times here. You can find a big list of them here. That ought to keep him busy. 🙂 And thank him, from the bottom of my heart, for his enjoyment of the post.

  2. How fun and a new book my family hasn’t read. So as we visit the library this morning I will pick up a copy and come home and do some of the items you listed with my son and his friends.
